Make a list of all the items you want to pack and what boxes they will go into. This list can also act as an inventory so you know exactly what you have and where it’s stored.
Make sure you label boxes clearly so you know exactly what’s inside.
When packing your belongings for storage, give each item a thorough clean to keep your storage space (and the items inside!) spic and span.
When filling your boxes, don’t allow the box to bulge. This could make it difficult to carry or lift, and may also collapse due to the extra weight.
Pack heavier items into smaller boxes so they are easy to lift and carry.
Fragile items, such as mirrors, glass units and pictures, should be protected with bubble wrap. Use fragile tape to secure the box.
Cover your soft furnishings, such as sofas and mattresses, with suitable protective covers.
Create extra storage space by using your wardrobes or chest of drawers to store any items inside, instead of extra boxes.
Place the heaviest of your goods into storage first as it will create a good and secure stacking base.
Place items that you won’t need often at the back of the storage unit to leave plenty of space near the front for items that will be needed on a regular basis.
Make sure all fridges and freezers are fully defrosted and washing machines and dishwashers are completely drained of water to prevent any damage, and then leave the doors open to allow ventilation.
Drain fuel and oil from all machinery to reduce the risk of leakage, spillage and damage to other goods being stored. Leaving petrol and oil in your machinery is also a fire hazard.
We do not allow the storage of dangerous, illegal and unsuitable items, if in doubt ask for details of what is not allowed.
